The DREAM Walkers, Fri 2/18, 7pm

Come out to Kent 107 (1020 E 58th St, Chicago) on Friday, February 18, to meet DREAM Walkers Felipe Matos and Juan Rodriguez! The DREAM Walkers walked 1,500 miles, from Miami, Florida, to Washington, D.C., in order to raise awareness for the DREAM Act. Hear them speak about issues that affect the immigrant community, challenges immigrant students face, and some possibilities for the future of this nation.

Free food and drinks! All are welcome!

Co-sponsored by UChicago Coalition for Immigrant Rights and Alpha Zeta Chapter of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Incorporated.

Please join us for UCCIR’s first event of winter quarter: Fighting for Immigrant and Labor Rights! It will be Monday, Jan 17 (MLK, Jr Day) at 3pm at Classics Cafe (in the Classics Building). We hope to see you there!

DREAM Act is coming to a vote, so please call your congressperson to ask them to vote yes on the act (or, if they are a supporter already, thank them). Below is a list of IL members of congress who are on the fence:

How to call:

If you’ve never called a member of congress before, it’s quite simple.

  • Call the number above for the congressperson you want to reach.
  • When the receptionist picks up, or if you have to leave a message, simply state that you support the DREAM act and urge your representative or senator to do the same.
  • That’s it! Depending on how much you say about the DREAM Act, the whole thing should take about 5 minutes.
  • DREAMactivist.org has a longer target list, if you want to call other senators or representatives.
